Latest East Cambs StoriesTue 26th Aug 2008: Demise of Post Office Account Card Will Cause More Closures. Those who have successfully fought for their Post Office should not rest as Liberal Democrats in South East Cambridgeshire are predicting another round of Post Office closures after the Post Office Account Card ceases in 2010 unless the Government allows Post Offices to develop their services. Sat 2nd Aug 2008: Poll Reveals 1 in 5 Tory MPs In Denial on Climate Change. One in five Tory MPs do not believe climate change is linked to human activity and two thirds say it should not be a priority for local councils according to a poll conducted by ComRes. Sun 13th Jul 2008: After Post Office closures Conservatives now say one thing and do the opposite with phone masts. Having already lambasted the Conservatives for failing to support their own Opposition Day Motion against Post Office closures Liberal Democrats have launched a stinging attack on Tory MPs for refusing to support the tightening of mobile phone mast rules. Tue 8th Jul 2008: If only the Tories had voted to save our Post Offices. Liberal Democrats have pointed to the fact that eleven Tory MPs including David Cameron failed to turn up for their own crucial Opposition Day Motion vote on current Post Office closures ensuring the Government won the day despite a rebellion by Labour MPs. Thu 3rd Jul 2008: Another U Turn as Government takes Lib Dem advice on Mugabe . On Monday July 7 Foreign Secretary David Miliband will visit South Africa to discuss Zimbabwe but Liberal Democrats say so far our Government's response has been all talk and no action apart from belatedly stripping Robert Mugabe of his knighthood after yet another U turn by the Prime Minister. There may be nine million bicycles in Beijing but with the start of Bike Week this Saturday there are pitifully few being used in South East Cambridgeshire according to the Liberal Democrats who blame a lack of facilities, speeding traffic and heavy lorries for putting people off cycling in the constituency. The recent announcement by Natural England, that the Roswell Pits and meadows are to be declared a SSSI for wildlife, has been welcomed by local Liberal Democrats. With the green belt around Cambridge facing mounting pressure from housing developers and the Government Liberal Democrats are alarmed by the head of Natural England suggesting it should be replaced by "green gaps". Local Liberal Democrats are claiming that based on data produced by the National Audit Office every year 10,000 national insurance returns for people working in Greater Cambridge may not be matched with their records. Thu 15th May 2008: Strip Mugabe of his Knighthood say Lib Dems. As there continues to be no a date for the next round for Zimbabwe's presidential election local Liberal Democrat campaigner Jonathan Chatfield is giving his support to the call for Robert Mugabe to be stripped of his knighthood. Sun 20th Apr 2008: The Liberal Democrat Group was very concerned that the Ely Masterplan was going to be rammed through without the proper consultation. Are universities price fixing tuition fees? As students now try to find the tuition money to take up their university place Lib Dems say the Government's aim for a competitive market in higher education has been a complete failure.
