Lib Dems announce 100 Day Action Plan

The priority of a new Liberal Democrat County Council during its first 100 days would be to reverse the neglect and decline in basic services which has been the result of 12 years of a Conservative led council.

A £3 million emergency fund would be created immediately by releasing surplus funds from reserves. This would be complemented by additional funds from budgets squandered on spin and PR and from badly managed contracts.

"In three months, we can't undo 10 years of neglect by the Conservatives, but we can take urgent action on basic services where there have been particular failures", says David Jenkins, leader of the Lib Dem opposition.

"The 100 day plan will:

• make inroads into the huge backlog of road and pavement repairs, traffic management and urgent road safety projects,

• kick start the county's youth services on which the Council has one of the worst records in the country

• conclude terms for funding extra police officers on the beat to deal with anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood crime.

In its first weeks, a Lib Dem council would also end the culture of secrecy and spin that has dominated the Conservative run Council, by opening policy making committees to the public and

releasing dossiers of secret documents."
