Lib Dem Split causes Party Officers Concern

2.44.25pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 1st May 2009

Martin Land of Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats is writing to all Lib Dem County Councillors asking them to calm down as a major split is affecting the local party.

"With so many Liberal Democrat Councillors in Cambridge and with our Group Leader, David Jenkins as a County Councillor for Histon, the play-offs for a place in League Division Two have the potential to cause some real ructions in our Group."

"I'm keeping a close eye on this situation and a close eye on our literature. No problem in Cambridge where they will continue to use the orange and black colours in our leaflets, colours they share with Cambridge United, but I don't want to see any red creeping into our leaflets in Histon!"

"It's bad enough with Cllr. Jenkins supporting the Welsh Rugby Team every year. This could be far worse!"
