A1307- another week, yet another tragedy

6.57.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 22nd Apr 2008

Another week, and yet another tragic death, when Linton Village College pupil Alice Westland was killed near Horseheath. Speaking as a College governor, John Batchelor said "We cannot go on bearing more tragedies like these."

John has campaigned for improvements to the A1307 for many years. He helped set up the Access A1307 Group. For far too long, the County Council just ignored the problems. The Access Group, working with the Parishes, local councils and highway engineers has started to achieve changes- the pedestrian lights at the top of the High Street, the prospect of lower speed limits on Linton by-pass.

But progress is still painfully slow and limited. John was pressing the County Council to mend a broken speed warning sign near the accident site in the weeks before the accident. Nothing was done.
