Enthusiastic Response To Lib Dem Roswell Pits Campaign4.16.10pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 21st Aug 2007
Ely Lib Dems have already received an enthusiastic response from Ely residents to their campaign to get Roswell Pits made a nature reserve.
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson Jonathan Chatfield has thrown his support behind the campaign, making a visit to the site on Saturday and going door-to-door asking people their views on the Pits. He said: "It is clear that Roswell Pits are an important haven for Ely residents, and many people are very concerned that the work that is currently being undertaken at the site will harm wildlife and destroy the beauty of the area." "Local people are very keen to see this area protected, and we are getting a very positive response to our campaign on the doorstep." Lib Dems have been going door-to-door with petition forms and a residents' survey about the Pits. A petition is available online at http://www.elylibdems.org.uk/
