Update - Roswell Pits threat and Lib Dems launch petition

7.54.49pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 9th Aug 2007

Lib Dems in Ely have launched a petition calling for Roswell Pits to be designated a nature reserve.

This follows outrage from local residents that the owner of the Pits has been allowed to carry out works to the site that could affect precious wildlife, without planning permission or community consultation.

You can sign the petition at http://www.elylibdems.org.uk/

Latest news on Roswell Pits:

The owner of the Pits has submitted an application for a 'Certificate of Lawfulness' so that he can continue the work he has done at the site and set up moorings.

If it is granted it will be an outrage as the damage to wildlife will be reprehensible.

This application will be considered purely on its merits from a legal point of view and the campaign group is very concerned that the wildlife organisations will not be consulted.

Please do sign our petition to protect this important wildlife site.
