ACTION NEEDED ON DANGER JUNCTION

6.05.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 6th Aug 2007

Following the crash on 19 July 2007 at the Slap-Up Junction, local Lib Dem Councillor Michael Williamson has called for urgent action.

The junction was recently singled out as one of the most dangerous in Cambridgeshire and last week a young woman had to be cut from her car following an accident there. The main entrance for the proposed Cambridge Sports Lakes is at Car Dyke Road near the junction and Councillor Williamson is very concerned that additional traffic might make the situation worse. He commented:

"As local residents we are all concerned by the rising levels of traffic on the A10 and the safety of the Slap-Up junction.

"The junction is already on a priority list of road safety schemes but action has not been taken. The situation will be even more urgent when the lakes are built and so it is essential that its problems are taken seriously. We need the County Council to draw up plans as soon as possible to make this junction safe and we need the developers of the Sports Lakes to make a financial contribution to ensure that the work gets done."
