Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats have warned against cutting health promotion programmes in the County.
Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust now has to decide where cuts and savings are to be made to meet Government Spending limits.
We believe that cuts to these programmes would be both undesirable and counter productive - in terms of then undoing good work already started - and create more problems for the Health Service further down the line.
Lib Dem Health Spokesman, County Councillor Geoff Heathcock, particularly addressed this warning towards work being done to reduce smoking amongst the young - which is beginning to show results, and in addressing the high rates of alcohol related hospital admissions in Cambridge City.
He said "Whilst understanding the financial pressures the NHS are under locally and will be under when new financial constraints come along, it would be both foolhardy and short sighted to be cutting work that would clearly reduce costs for the Service further down the line. Very careful thought must be applied, before any cuts are made."
