Thanks to the suggestion of a local allotment holder followed up by County Councillor Susan van de Ven, Donarbon has agreed to provide free compost for collection at Thriplow and other Cambridgeshire household recycling centres.
Until now, residents wanting free compost have had to drive all the way to Donarbon's collection centre at Waterbeach.
While there will be no official charge for the compost, a goodwill box will be set up for donations to local charities, probably to be decided upon by the local community.
Councillor Susan van de Ven commented, "The compost is the direct result of Cambridgeshire residents making a concerted effort to recycle their green waste, so it is only right that they should reap the reward. It will benefit the growing number of residents who now grow their own fruit and veg - and for whom the prospect of a long and wasteful journey by car makes no sense."
Cllr van de Ven thanked the County Council Waste Management Service for their help in liaising with Donarbon.
