Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats have added their support to a national initiative aimed at cutting carbon emissions nationally by 10 per cent in 2010.
And Cambridgeshire Lib Dem leader, David Jenkins, wants Cambridgeshire County Council to follow suit.
The 10:10 campaign calls on individuals, businesses, schools, hospitals and organisations to take positive action to reduce their carbon footprints.
Cllr Jenkins said: ""Politicians are constantly talking about making major emission cuts by 2030 or 2050, but unless we take radical action now, there is little chance of ever meeting these targets. The 10:10 scheme is important because of its urgency. It calls for 10% cuts in 2010."
"Every member of the County Lib Dem Group has personally signed up to the 10:10 scheme, committing to reduce their carbon footprint in the coming year. If everyone across the country took part, it could make real difference."
"But we also need our organisations to commit to the scheme. David Howarth and the city council have shown leadership on this: let's see if the County Council and the other districts have the courage to follow their lead. Talking about about cutting emissions is all very well, but taking action requires real commitment."
