A1307: Mixed Messages

April 10, 2009 1:10 PM

After a delay when the previous contractor went bust, work on the danger junction at Park Hill, Horseheath is moving ahead again.

"We cannot bear any more delay" says John Batchelor. "It took several years and three deaths to goad the County Council into improving the junction. As always, its a case of too little, too late."

The County Council is getting a grant of £450,000 from the developers of Granta Park for local transport improvements. John has deplored the Council's refusal to spend most of the money making the Hildersham turn safer for cars and pedestrians. Instead all the money will be spent on a cycle route from Abington to Sawston.

"I am sure it will be a good idea to have the cycle route" said John, "but saving lives on the A1307 seems the highest priority to me. At least a speed camera should be put up along this stretch of the road fairly soon.

"On a positive note, traffic police have held several 'saturation' days, with more to come. Drivers have been caught speeding and using mobile phones. The police portable speed camera has been in evidence. This high profile policing is something many of us have been demanding for a long time. And I'm sure having a local police station which the traffic police can drop into during their shift is an advantage."
