It has recently been announced that Cambridgeshire County Council has decided that BAM Nuttall, its prime contractor for the guided bus will no longer be responsible for the section which runs along King Hedges Road and provides connections for Orchard Park residents. The only reason given in the announcement was 'to enable BAM Nuttalls to concentrate on the southern section'.
It seems that this section should already have been finished but that a design has only just been produced.
County Councillor and Liberal Democrat group leader David Jenkins asks:
'Who's been managing this project that it should get so far behind schedule? And why should we presume that BAM Nuttalls needs to be given space to concentrate on the southern section? Surely as a big, multi-national company it's got ample resources. And given the impact of the recession we'd expect that this would be doubly so. This is all very strange and I worry abut the state of our relationship with BAM Nuttalls. Has it broken down?
He continued:
'I asked these questions of Council Leader Jill Tuck. She declined to answer me and instead asked an officer to call me. Doesn't she know what's going on?'
'The guided bus is an unpopular project but since we're spending over £100 million on it we might as well get it built right and make the most of it.'
