Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats responding to the two-star award by the Care Commission to the County Council for social care services have praised the sterling efforts of frontline staff struggling with ever increasing demand but said the real worry is for those left with no service at all, often forgotten and unable to tick the boxes for a service.
Their Health and Adult Social Care Spokesman Councillor Geoff Heathcock paid tribute to staff who had worked incredibly hard to push standards up but warned - "too many of our citizens whether they are in Coleridge or Wisbech have an increasingly difficult job to get real help and support - unless you are very incapacitated and poorly you will not tick the set of boxes for a meaningful care package."
"Local and National Government need to make a determined effort with political will to eradicate this "care lottery" once and for all."
"A sign of a truly civilised society is how we care and provide for the older generation; a review of our care system cannot wait for ever."
