In the light of further concerns expressed in recent days by the National Federation of Sub Postmasters, Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats are calling urgently on the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to make a statement about what is to happen to the Post Office Card account which is up for review and forms a large part of local sub-post office income.
Any further delay will put even more pressure on the current sub post-offices and see another wave of closures - something small communities simply don't want to see.
Their Communities Spokesman - Cllr Geoff Heathcock speaking on a visit to Barton told local residents, "This decision which is already some months late is crucial to support the remaining parts of the rural network, if as is rumoured the account which is worth some £200 million nationally is taken away - more Post Offices will be simply unviable and plunge more communities into isolation"
