Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats are pleased to announce the selection of their candidate, Fiona Whelan, for the forthcoming County Council by-election for the Hardwick Division which will be held on the 27th November.
Fiona Whelan's campaign plans to not just distribute an election address and comprehensive literature to all residents of the villages, but will also be running, perhaps for the first time in Cambridgeshire, a sophisticated Internet Campaign. Residents will be able to visit Fiona's Campaign Website, www.fionawhelan.com as well has her personal campaign 'blog' where she will be recording her thoughts about the campaign and life in general! www.fionawhelan.blogspot.com
Residents will also be invited to complete our resident's opinion surveys online. The first survey, for residents of Barton, Coton, Grantchester and Madingley is already ready to be completed at www.cambslibdems.org.uk Paper copies of the survey are being distributed as well giving residents the option to either return it by Freepost or complete it online.
'With my team, we are hoping to visit every home in the Division and ask residents what they want for their village. I'm also planning to attend every Parish Council's next meeting to assure them that should I be elected they will receive a much better service from their County Councillor in the future.'
'Residents of our villages have had an absentee Conservative County Councillor for far too long. My pledge is to give them the support and service they deserve. On June 4th next year, Cambridgeshire residents will elect a new County Council, and the winner of the by-election will be up for re-election. I'm asking the residents of Hardwick to give me six months to prove to them that I can do a better job. I hope they will give me the chance as I would relish the challenge.'
Fiona has just finished 4 years of part time, distance learning to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Law and her Legal Practice Course and remains determined to pass her motorbike licence test before another 12 months are up. Mother to two sons in local schools, she loves a challenge and has a real passion for education, Special Educational Needs issues and stamping out discrimination in whatever form it appears. She is a School Governor and Vice Chairman of Caldecote Parish Council.
