Leslie Thomas, Bottisham Post Master, Jonathan Chatfield and Cllr Christine Bryant campaigning against Anglian Water Penalty Charges
In the wake of the disappointing Post Office closure announcement local Liberal Democrat campaigner Jonathan Chatfield has asked Anglian Water to support local Post Offices by dropping its £2.35 penalty for paying its bills at the Post Office.
Jonathan says the charge is a penalty on the elderly and least well off who in many cases have no alternative but to pay their bills at the Post Office.
In contrast Cambridge Water does not penalise its customers who pay at the Post Office and ironically some of its bill is for Anglian Water.
Jonathan Chatfield the Lib Dem's parliamentary spokesperson said:
"In discriminating against local Post Offices in this way Anglian Water are forfeiting any right to say they are supporting people and communities.
"If the £2.35 penalty was dropped it would make hardly a dent in Anglian Water profits."
Jonathan has written to the chairman of Anglian Water seeking to have the £2.35 dropped.
