Those who have successfully fought for their Post Office should not rest as Liberal Democrats in South East Cambridgeshire are predicting another round of Post Office closures after the Post Office Account Card ceases in 2010 unless the Government allows Post Offices to develop their services.
Jonathan Chatfield the Lib Dem's parliamentary spokesperson for South East Cambridgeshire explained:
"If the Government doesn't permit Post Offices more freedom in the way they run their business then with the loss of the account card we will undoubtedly see another round of closures.
"Two years ago a petition opposed to the loss of the Post Office Account Card and signed by nearly four million people was given to the previous Prime Minister.
"But the Labour Government has ignored the wishes of four million people and has not waivered in its efforts to make Post Offices which are the heart of local communities extinct.
"Lib Dems would demerge the Post Offices from Royal Mail and give them the freedom to develop their services.
"Unless this happens then we believe another round of Post Office cuts is inevitable."
