Cllr John Batchelor won the right for tenants to have a vote on the future of their housing stock
Tories forced into U-Turn on Council Housing
Lib Dems on South Cambs District council have successfully protected the interests of council tenants by persuading the Tory administration to drop plans to endorse housing transfer.
The tenants of 6,000 homes owned by the council will be asked later this year if they want to transfer to a private social landlord or stay with the council. The Tories wanted to preempt that decision by declaring their preference for transfer.
The Lib Dems won the argument that tenants should be given a free choice.
John Batchelor Leader of the Lib Dem Group said:
"Our position has always been that the options should be put clearly to tenants and that they should make their own decision. The role of the council is to make sure the tenants have all the information they need to make an informed choice."
