With the Post Office wanting to close 67 post offices in east Suffolk and east Essex from January Liberal Democrats fear that the cull of post offices in our area will be much greater than expected.
Jonathan Chatfield the Lib Dem's parliamentary spokesperson for South East Cambridgeshire explained:
"The list for east Essex and east Suffolk published last week by the Post Office following consultation includes post offices which were meant to be the alternative choices for people following the earlier closures.
"Urban areas are just as badly hit as rural ones. For example, in Colchester three branches are to close.
"I warned when the Post Office announced its intention to close over 2,500 branches throughout the country, that no post office in Cambridgeshire could be considered safe.
"Now we see the extent of the closures in just one part of Essex and Suffolk, my fears are justified.
"This is the third round of closures under Labour following on from previous cuts by the Tories and the consultation has been nothing more than a box ticking exercise."
