ADDENBROOKE'S EXPANSION COULD CAUSE TRAFFIC CHAOS

August 9, 2007 6:46 PM

Lib Dem County Councillor for Queen Edith's, Geoff Heathcock, has expressed concern about proposals for expansion of the Addenbrooke's Hospital site.

Councillor Heathcock is concerned that the amended planning application for the new 'medipark' may put additional pressure on routes around the hospital and on Fendon Road and Queen Edith's Way. He commented:

"The Fendon Road - Queen Edith's Way roundabout is overloaded at peak times with extensive queuing and pollution. Local residents already suffer from the high traffic volumes, the difficulty in parking near the hospital and the pollution. This situation must not be made worse simply because Addenbrooke's wishes to enlarge further and further still.

"We need assurances that these problems will be fixed before any development happens. Pedestrian facilities are currently very limited for crossing these dangerous junctions and we need a much better bus services to bring patients and staff from the east of the city and beyond Madingley Road Park and Ride. This was totally ignored before Papworth Hospital moved - this must not happen again."
