East Cambs Councillors hold banners saying £14 million saved by not moving offices
Conservatives in East Cambridgeshire have admitted in their election communication their intention to 'return to' the issue of repairs to the Council offices. Liberal Democrats suspect this is a signal that they will resurrect their plans to move the district council offices at a cost to taxpayers of over £14 million.
'Extravagant and wasteful'
Liberal Democrat Group Leader Gareth Wilson said, "Repairing the existing Council building will cost much less than the extravagant and wasteful Conservative plans."
£200 for every man, woman and child in the district
Liberal Democrats and local people managed to defeat the outrageous Conservative plans just over a year ago, and persuaded the Conservatives to spend considerably less by refurbishing the existing building. The initial cost of the plans was estimated at £7million, however, this soon escalated to over £14.5million. Liberal Democrats will continue to fight against the resurrection of these wasteful plans.
