The plans mean more investment for cycling in Ely
At a recent District Council Transport Committee meeting, plans for a new, better transport strategy for Ely were given unanimous backing.
The plans include proposals for a Transport Interchange at the railway station, a 180 space car park at Angel Drove with a Saturday Park & Ride service, and more investment in walking and cycling in Ely.
Councillor Nigel Bell, a proposer of the motion, said: "I am glad that we have found a way forward and that planning-gains money is being properly used to improve access at the railway station."
The plans in detail…
• Spend £300,000 on a Transport Interchange at the Railway Station to improve access for buses, cyclists and pedestrians.
• Create a financially self-supporting 180 space car park at Angel Drove with a new path providing direct access to the Railway Station.
• A new Saturday Park and Ride service to Angel Drove.
• Adjust the regulatory regime in the Council's existing car parks, including increased enforcement.
• Extend St Mary's Street car park and renew the lease on Cresswells car park.
• Spend £190,000 on improving walking and cycling in Ely.
