Cllr Jonathan Chatfield cycling at Arbury Park
A recent meeting to address cyclists' concerns about the Arbury Camp development was unsatisfactory.
It appears that insufficient attention was given to scrutinising developers' plans and that safety audit recommendations were not followed through.
As County Councillor David Jenkins was recently quoted in the local paper, "It is crazy that the County Council is now having to waste money fixing what should have been done right the first time."
Problems with the new road layout for cyclists include:
It is still very dangerous to cross the A14 slip roads and there is no 'dedicated lights' time for cyclists or markings on the road.
At Kings Hedges Road cyclists have to wait at three separate lights to cross and the lanes themselves are very narrow.
The central traffic islands also create dangerous pinch points with cars cutting up cyclists and several near misses.
