Lib Dems shocked at Conservative 'Nazi' slur

Liberal Democrats on East Cambridgeshire District Council were shocked when it emerged that a Conservative account of the defeat of plans to build a car park on Ely Cathedral meadow had accused the Liberal Democrats of a "disgraceful Nazi-style propaganda campaign".
The comments were posted on the Conservative website in response to the defeat of the plans, in the face of overwhelming public opposition and protest by Liberal Democrats.
Group Leader Cllr Gareth Wilson said " I fully understand the Conservatives are sore at losing public support over the Broad Street car park, but it is quite irresponsible to use such language about fellow councillors in our British democracy. I would not like to think that is going to be the Conservative style in the next year's District elections".
